Backlund guitars are new classics. Iconic "retro-futuristic" designs that hark back to another era, but also hint at the future. Many are familiar with John Backlund’s fantastic guitar designs, but very few have ever had the opportunity to own one - until now. John has partnered with Eastwood Guitars to bring these fantastic designs to life.
Since launching this new line of Backlund guitars, the Rockerbox quickly became one of the most anticipated... and it's easy to see why! This new version of the Rockerbox goes back to basics with just a neck and bridge humbucker, three way toggle, and volume/tone for each.
TLDR: This guitar is awesome! It's not perfect, but I love it!
The Good: Out of the box, this guitar played great. The setup was good and with only a minor straightening of the neck, it was playing exactly how I like. The fret work is fantastic (which is always a worry when buying guitars online), with no high frets and no fret sprout. This thing sounds incredible too, especially the neck pickup. Clean or Driven, its a tone machine. Plus, it is so beautiful and everyone loves the Red/Creme!
The Not Good: There are several blemishes in the finish, either bleed into the binging or marks in the finish where someone must have bumped it at some point. Nothing too egregious, just minor things. The neck pickup would rattle a lot when playing so I had to go in and tape it so it wouldn't vibrate constantly. The nut could be better, but its serviceable for now. Might upgrade in the future. The tuners are fine, but could also be a place for an upgrade in the future. Also, whoever strung up the guitar didn't get the ball end of the low E set right in the tailpiece which caused a problem when trying to remove that string. The ball ends need to go in a particular way in order to sit correctly in the tailpiece. Something to double check on! It is a bit of a pain to get the ball end in correctly too, so watch out for that aspect when restringing.
Overall: This guitar is really great. The build quality is great, the playability is great, the tone is great and the looks are unmatched. I definitely recommend this guitar, just don't expect something perfect. Fortunately, I got it on sale, otherwise the price is a little high, but still a fantastic guitar. Give it a try!
I ordered the Backlund Rockerbox II mainly for its looks. I loved that classic 50's "futuristic" look of the body, the colors and just the whole vibe. This is my second Eastwood guitar (I have the classic 12) so I was expecting similar build quality. That's not to say my classic 12 is sub-par; it's not by any means. However, my expectations were exceeded with the Rockerbox II! The glossy finish is fantastic. It looks even better in person than online. The finish itself, in terms of how it was applied, shows care good quality control. No paint bleed anywhere, a nice even coat. The tuners are good, not too tight or loose. The only issues were a output jack nut that loosens up and one tone knob that is slightly off kilter. The tone is where this instrument rocks! The pickups are superb. If you're familiar with filtertron type pickups and love that tone, you'll love these. The neck can be very warm and rounded for jazz while the bridge can provide that crunch for rock!
I have several guitars in my personal collection: a Gibson LP Standard and a Junior, a Fender Tele, an Epiphone Casino, a Reverend Jetstream 390, a Taylor Acoustic. I care about quality and have avoided the cheap imports because they often lack it. I play my guitars regularly and value performance over looks. So glad I have both with this instrument!
Love this guitar, I've already recorded a slide part with it. This is my second Eastwood guitar and I can't wait to buy more...love the look, the quality, but most importantly, the SOUND!

This is a smooth playing guitar. Excellent neck, pickups and sound
I have mot paid for my guitar in full just yet, due to it being on back order for quite some time.
It is ready to ship and things have came my way causing me to have to pay it in installments.
I just want to say thanks for working with me to get it paid off!
I cannot wait to get it shipped and play it.
Thanks again for being patient.

The guitars I ended up with are spectacular - Between the Duocata, Mondata Baritone an Hooky Bass 6 Pro I have three absolutely outstanding instruments - They are 'mine,' and they are 'home.' When I pick them up they give me the same thrill as some of my best vintage instruments ever did. And that's saying something for a guy who's been through ~130 guitars since 1975. I may do some pickup/harness swaps, but these are incredibly high quality, wonderful players.
I do miss the SG, and tried out...
